Overview:
ISI's College Remedial Reading is a computer assisted instruction program designed
to improve the reading skills of college students. This is an extensive, comprehensive
course that covers four skill areas: Narrative Text, Information Text, Persuasive Text,
and Reading Comprehension. The course individualizes instruction for each student,
selecting the appropriate skill areas according to the student's pattern of response. In
addition to this course, ISI also offers
College
Remedial Math, College Remedial Writing Mechanics, and Foundations of College Math.
Objectives:
This is a partial listing of objectives. The course is very

(1) NARRATIVE TEXT: character traits, character motives, character
function, setting, plot, theme, vocabulary, foreshadowing, figurative awareness;
(2) INFORMATIONAL TEXT: identify author's purpose, major points,
details supporting main idea, comparison and contrast, cause and effect, vocabulary,
research and study skills;
(3) PERSUASIVE TEXT: fact and opinion, main idea, author's
persuasive techniques, analogies, vocabulary, comparison and contrast;
(4) READING COMPREHENSION.
